Band

The Baillie Band Program employs two qualified band instructors: one per band. Band musicians receive an average of two hours per week of rehearsal and expert instruction in general musical theory, specific instrument instruction, proper handling and maintenance, and general band etiquette. Home practice of at least 15 minutes per day is recommended.

No previous musical experience is required to join Beginner Band. Many Beginner Band students move ahead to Intermediate Band in their second year, or may choose to return to Beginner Band to learn a new instrument.

Choir

The A.G. Baillie choir is available to students in grades 4, 5 and 6 who enjoy singing, and would like to be part of a large choral group. We explore a variety of repertoire, and sing at assemblies, concerts and the New Glasgow Music Festival. This group rehearses during lunch hour one day per week, and is taught by music teacher, Jane Miller. There is no membership fee for this group; however, students are required to have a white shirt/blouse, black pants and black shoes for performances.

Recorder

The recorder group is a unique ensemble for students in grades 5 and 6 who enjoy playing the recorder, and would like to play more challenging music. Some students will be selected to play the school’s alto, tenor and bass recorders. These recorders enhance our ensemble playing. The recorder group usually begins its rehearsals in December or January and finishes in May. We rehearse one day a week, either at lunch hour or after school.
